Cutler Buttery Solicitors was founded by two highly experienced and specialist lawyers – Neil Cutler and Mark Buttery, both keen to provide accessible and cost-effective legal services to business and individuals.
Neil Cutler

Neil has specialised as a solicitor in commercial civil litigation and commercial law for 30 years. He has sat for seven years as a Deputy District Judge in civil courts in the West Midlands.
He has been a senior equity partner in two sizeable Midlands law firms during that period, representing numerous UK and international business clients, major blue-chip companies and public sector organisations.
Neil has warm working relations with many members of the Bar, developed over many years - Neil has been described as a “barristers’ solicitor”. He is well-known in the local Courts and has developed close contacts with experts including forensic accountants and surveyors and other members of the litigation community.
During his 30 years specialist commercial litigation experience Neil Cutler has:
- undertaken cases up to and including the Court of Appeal
- acted regularly as an advocate on behalf of clients up to trial
- made numerous successful injunction applications
- conducted much “technical” litigation involving engineering and construction disputes, particularly in the Mercantile and Technical and Construction Courts in Birmingham and elsewhere
- acted and appeared regularly in the Chancery Division
- advised and litigated complex intellectual property cases
- represented insolvency practitioners in leading reported appeal cases
- represented clients in commercial and other arbitrations, adjudications and mediations
- developed an automated and successful debt collection practice
Neil has also specialised in commercial legal work for his business clients including:
- undertaking transactional work for commercial clients acquiring or disposing of companies or their assets
- negotiating many commercial contracts and deals for clients
- drafting commercial contracts and other commercial documents including agency and distributorship documentation, licences and standard conditions of trading
- drafting conditions of employment and other employment-related documentation

Mark is the lead partner heading up the family and matrimonial law department at Cutler Buttery.
As a respected member of the Law Society’s specialist Family and Children Panels, Mark’s incisive approach, wide experience and approachable manner offer a rare combination of skills in representing our clients in all family matters, whether divorce proceedings themselves, financial provision following divorce, or arrangements for children and care cases, in each case where obtaining the best possible result may have important long-term personal and emotional consequences far wider than the legal arrangements themselves.
Mark Buttery has 20 years specialist experience as a family and matrimonial solicitor and has:

- advised and litigated complex high net worth ancillary relief proceedings
- made numerous successful injunction applications
- acted and appeared regularly for guardians in public law and wardship cases
- acted in adoption proceedings
